Alice Meynell

Alice Meynell (1847-1922) was an English poet, essayist, and editor. She was born in London and educated at home by her father, a Roman Catholic convert. She began writing poetry at an early age and published her first volume of poetry, The Flower of the Mind, in 1875. She was a prolific writer, publishing several volumes of poetry, essays, and criticism. She was also an active editor, working on the periodicals The Germ and The Englishwoman. She was a prominent figure in the Pre-Raphaelite movement and was a friend of William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. She was a strong advocate for women's rights and was a founding member of the Women's Franchise League. She was married to Wilfrid Meynell, a poet and publisher, and they had four children. She died in 1922 in London.
