Allen Ripley Foote is an American author and journalist. He is the author of several books, including The American Way of War: A History of United States Military Strategy and Policy (1973), The War of 1812 (1974), and The Civil War: A Narrative (1974). He has also written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. Foote has a BA from Harvard University and an MA from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
