Amanda Gorman is an American poet and activist from Los Angeles, California. She is the first National Youth Poet Laureate of the United States, a position she was appointed to in 2017. Gorman is the author of the poetry collection The Hill We Climb and Other Poems, which was released in 2020. She is also the founder of One Pen One Page, a non-profit organization that provides free creative writing programs to underserved youth. Gorman has been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and TIME Magazine. She has also appeared on several television shows, including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Today Show. Gorman has been recognized for her activism and her work in the literary world, and has been awarded the 2020 National Book Award for Young People's Literature.
