Andrew Barton Paterson

Andrew Barton Paterson (1864-1941) was an Australian bush poet, journalist, and author. He is best known for his iconic poem "The Man from Snowy River" and other works such as "Clancy of the Overflow" and "Waltzing Matilda". Paterson was born in Narrambla, New South Wales, and was educated at Sydney Grammar School. He worked as a solicitor in the New South Wales town of Yeoval before becoming a journalist in Sydney. He wrote for The Bulletin magazine and was a war correspondent during the Boer War. Paterson's works often focused on the Australian bush and its people, and he was a major influence on the development of the Australian national identity. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Sydney in 1936.
