Anna Milo Upjohn was an American artist, illustrator, author and relief worker. She was born on October 31, 1868, in Dover, New Jersey, and died on December 4, 1951, in New Milford, Connecticut. Most of her art training took place in Paris. She later worked for the American Red Cross, serving as a staff artist from 1921 to 1931. Friends in Strange Garments (Houghton Mifflin, Boston and New York, 1927) is her best-known book for children. She wrote and illustrated it herself. Its pictures show the differences in dress and outward appearance among peoples of different nations, while its stories stress the qualities children everywhere share.
