The novel follows the story of a man named Mr. Witt who has recently lost his wife. He becomes increasingly isolated and lonely, unable to cope with the loss of his partner. As the story progresses, Mr. Witt's mental state deteriorates, and he becomes more and more detached from reality. The novel ends with Mr. Witt's suicide, leaving behind a trail of grieving loved ones who are left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.
