Antonio Machado (1875-1939) was a Spanish poet and one of the leading figures of the Spanish literary movement known as the Generation of '98. He was born in Seville, Spain, and studied philosophy at the University of Madrid. He was a teacher for most of his life, and his poetry was heavily influenced by his teaching experience. His most famous works include Soledades (1903), Campos de Castilla (1912), and Juan de Mairena (1936). He was a pacifist and a socialist, and his poetry often reflected his political views. He died in Collioure, France, in 1939.
