Armando Palacio Valdés (1853–1938) was a Spanish novelist, poet, and playwright. He was born in Asturias, Spain, and studied law at the University of Oviedo. He began his literary career in 1876 with the publication of his first novel, La familia de León Roch. He went on to write several more novels, including La hija del capitán (1886), La loca de la casa (1890), and La madre naturaleza (1893). He also wrote several plays, including El caballero de las espuelas de oro (1890) and El caballero de la blanca luna (1893). He was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy and was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III in 1894. He died in Madrid in 1938.
