Arthur Ransome (1884–1967) was an English author and journalist, best known for his "Swallows and Amazons" series of children's books. Born in Leeds, he initially worked as a publisher's office assistant and later as a journalist. Ransome spent time in Russia during the Russian Revolution, which influenced some of his writings. His "Swallows and Amazons" series, beginning with the 1930 novel of the same name, is celebrated for its depiction of childhood adventure and exploration.
