Augustus Charles Thompson (1845-1912) was an American author and journalist. He was born in New York City and educated at the University of the City of New York. He began his career as a journalist, writing for the New York Tribune and the New York Times. He later became a freelance writer, contributing to magazines such as Harper's Weekly and The Atlantic Monthly. Thompson wrote several books, including The Life of Abraham Lincoln (1890), The Life of Ulysses S. Grant (1891), and The Life of William McKinley (1901). He also wrote several novels, including The White Slave (1890) and The Red Man's Revenge (1893). Thompson was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He was also a member of the Authors Club of New York. He died in 1912 in New York City.
