Catherine Crowe (1790–1872) was an English novelist, playwright, and short story writer. She was born in London and educated at home. She wrote several novels, including The Night Side of Nature (1848), which was a bestseller in its day. She also wrote plays, including The School for Coquettes (1841), and short stories, such as The Ghost of the Tower (1850). Her works often featured supernatural elements, and she was an early pioneer of the ghost story genre. She was also a popular lecturer and public speaker, and was known for her wit and intelligence.
