Charles Franklin Thwing (1853-1937) was an American educator, author, and historian. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Western Reserve University in 1875. He then went on to teach at the university, eventually becoming its president in 1892. Thwing was a prolific author, writing over 30 books on a variety of topics, including history, education, and religion. He was a strong advocate for the education of women, and wrote several books on the subject. He was also a noted historian, writing several books on the history of Cleveland and Ohio. Thwing was a member of numerous organizations, including the American Historical Association, the American Philosophical Society, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was also a member of the Ohio Historical Society, and served as its president from 1895 to 1897. Thwing was a highly respected figure in the academic world, and his work was widely praised. He was awarded honorary degrees from several universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Western Reserve. He was also awarded the Order of Merit by the King of Italy in 1921.
