Charlton Miner Lewis (1850-1912) was an American author and historian. He was born in New York City and graduated from Columbia College in 1871. He was a professor of history at Columbia from 1876 to 1891, and then became a professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania from 1891 to 1912. Lewis wrote several books on American history, including The History of the United States (1890), The History of the Civil War (1895), and The History of the Reconstruction Period (1902). He also wrote several biographies, including a biography of George Washington (1906) and a biography of Abraham Lincoln (1909). He was a member of the American Historical Association and the American Philosophical Society.
