
The Tragedy of a Third Smoker is a novel by Cutcliffe Hyne, first published in 1898. It tells the story of a young man, John, who is a smoker and a gambler. He is in love with a woman, but she is already engaged to another man. John's life is thrown into turmoil when he meets a mysterious stranger, who offers him a chance to win a fortune in a card game. John takes the chance, but soon finds himself in a dangerous situation, as the stakes become higher and higher. He must decide whether to risk his life and his love for the chance of a fortune, or to walk away and accept his fate. The novel follows John's journey as he struggles to make the right decision, and the consequences of his choices.
