In the year 2093, the spaceship Prometheus, funded by the Weyland Corporation, embarks on a journey to a distant moon, LV-223, following a star map discovered among the remnants of several ancient Earth civilizations. The crew, led by scientists Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway, seeks to uncover the origins of humanity by finding the Engineers, an alien race believed to have created mankind. Upon arrival, the crew discovers a massive structure filled with mysterious urns and the remains of a giant humanoid, an Engineer. As they explore, they inadvertently trigger a series of events that lead to the release of a black liquid, a bio-weapon created by the Engineers. This substance begins to infect the crew, causing horrific mutations and deaths. David, an android created by Weyland, secretly conducts his own experiments with the black liquid, leading to further chaos. Holloway becomes infected and is ultimately killed by Vickers, Weyland's daughter, to prevent the spread of the contagion. The crew learns that the Engineers intended to use the bio-weapon to destroy humanity. Shaw, the sole survivor, decides to continue the search for answers, seeking the Engineers' home world, Paradise, to understand why they turned against their creation. The film concludes with Shaw and David's remains setting off in an Engineer ship, leaving behind the devastation on LV-223, as a new alien creature, born from the Engineer's body, emerges, hinting at the origins of the xenomorph species.
