Don Berry (1924–2001) was an American author of historical fiction. He was born in Portland, Oregon, and served in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, he attended the University of Oregon, where he earned a degree in journalism. Berry wrote several novels, including Trask (1959), Moontrap (1963), and To Build a Ship (1966). His works often focused on the Oregon Territory in the 19th century, and he was known for his meticulous research and attention to detail. He was awarded the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award in 1966 for To Build a Ship. Berry was also a successful screenwriter, writing the screenplay for the 1971 film adaptation of Trask. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the film. He also wrote the screenplay for the 1975 film adaptation of Moontrap. Berry died in 2001 at the age of 77.
