E. Gordon Duff

E. Gordon Duff was Ernest Gordon Duff (1863–1924), an English bibliographer, librarian, and leading authority on early English printing. He worked at the John Rylands Library in Manchester and later became librarian of the University of Manchester. His scholarship focused especially on fifteenth-century books, English incunabula, and the history of printing before 1501. Duff is best known for A Century of the English Book Trade, 1457–1557 and The Printers, Stationers and Bookbinders of Westminster and London from 1476 to 1535. He also compiled important catalogues and bibliographies of early printed books, helping establish reliable methods for identifying printers, editions, and surviving copies. His work remains significant to the study of the earliest period of English publishing and book production.
