Edith Brown Kirkwood (1890-1962) was an American author and educator. She was born in New York City and attended the University of Chicago, where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1912. She then went on to teach English and history at the University of Chicago and Northwestern University. Kirkwood wrote several books, including The Story of the American Flag (1917), The Story of the Constitution (1919), and The Story of the Declaration of Independence (1921). She also wrote several books for children, including The Story of the Pilgrims (1922) and The Story of the Thirteen Colonies (1923). Kirkwood was a member of the National Education Association and the American Historical Association. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames of America. She was active in the women's suffrage movement and was a founding member of the League of Women Voters. Kirkwood died in 1962 in Evanston, Illinois.
