Second April: PRAYER TO PERSEPHONE

In her poem “Prayer to Persephone,” Edna St. Vincent Millay speaks to the Greek goddess of spring and vegetation, Persephone. She asks Persephone to bring the beauty of spring to the world, and to bring joy and hope to those who are suffering. She also asks Persephone to bring peace and understanding to those who are in conflict. The poem is a plea for Persephone to bring her gifts of renewal and growth to the world. Millay’s poem is a reminder of the power of nature and the beauty of spring, and of the hope that comes with it.
