Edward Lucas White (1866-1934) was an American author of horror and fantasy fiction. He is best known for his short story "Lukundoo" (1927), which won the first ever O. Henry Award for Best Short Story. White was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pennsylvania. He worked as a lawyer for several years before turning to writing full-time. White wrote several novels, including The Song of the Sirens (1919), The Unlighted Sea (1921), and The House of the Nightmare (1925). He also wrote numerous short stories, many of which were published in Weird Tales magazine. His stories often featured supernatural elements, such as ghosts, vampires, and other creatures of the night. White's work was highly influential in the horror and fantasy genres, and he is considered one of the most important authors of the early 20th century.
