Elie Wiesel was a Romanian-born American writer, professor, political activist, Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor. He is best known for his memoir "Night," which chronicles his experiences as a teenager in Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps during World War II. Wiesel was also an outspoken advocate for human rights and against genocide, serving as the chairman of The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity from 1986 until his death in 2016.
