Ellen C. Clayton, MD, JD, is a professor of pediatrics and health policy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a professor of law at Vanderbilt Law School. She is the director of the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the director of the Vanderbilt Center for Genetic Privacy and Identity in Community Settings. She is a nationally recognized expert in the areas of genetics, health policy, and bioethics. Clayton is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics. She has served on numerous national and international committees, including the National Institutes of Health’s Advisory Committee to the Director, the National Human Genome Research Institute’s Advisory Council, and the World Health Organization’s International Bioethics Committee. She is the author of numerous books and articles on genetics, health policy, and bioethics.
