Enrique Larreta (1875–1961) was an Argentine writer, diplomat, and historian. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and studied law at the University of Buenos Aires. He was a diplomat in Europe and the United States, and served as the Argentine ambassador to France from 1921 to 1925. Larreta was a prolific writer, and his works include novels, plays, essays, and biographies. He is best known for his historical novels, which include La gloria de don Ramiro (1914), La novela de un novelista (1917), and El árbol de la ciencia (1911). He also wrote a biography of the Argentine writer José Hernández, and a history of the Spanish conquest of the Americas, La conquista del Río de la Plata (1925). Larreta was a member of the Argentine Academy of Letters, and was awarded the National Prize for Literature in 1954. He died in 1961 in Buenos Aires.
