Erckmann-Chatrian

Erckmann-Chatrian was the pen name of the French authors Émile Erckmann (1822–1899) and Alexandre Chatrian (1826–1890). They were both born in Phalsbourg, Moselle, France. Erckmann was a teacher and Chatrian was a lawyer. They wrote together from 1848 to 1890, producing over sixty works, mostly novels and short stories. Their works often dealt with the struggles of the common people of their region, and were often set during the Franco-Prussian War. They are best known for their novel Les Deux Amis de la Marne (1868).
