Ethel Lina White (1876–1944) was an English novelist and screenwriter. She was born in Herefordshire, England, and educated at Hereford High School. She began writing stories for magazines in her teens, and her first novel, The Wheel Spins, was published in 1936. White wrote several novels, including The Spiral Staircase (1938), The Lady Vanishes (1938), and The Uninvited (1941).
