The genus Pipistrellus consists of small to medium-sized bats with a broad distribution across North America. They are insectivorous and roost in colonies, often in buildings, trees, or rock crevices. The bats have dark brown to reddish-brown fur, with some species having a lighter-colored belly. Ears are triangular and pointed, with a tragus present. The wings are narrow and pointed, with a long third finger.
