The geographic range of the hooded skunk extends from southern Texas to Central America, including Mexico and parts of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. The species inhabits a variety of habitats, including forests, grasslands, and deserts. A new subspecies is described from the Pacific coastal region of Mexico, characterized by darker coloration and larger size compared to other subspecies.
