Serapion by Francis Stevens (1920)

The novel follows the adventures of a group of scientists who travel to a distant planet called Serapion. The planet is inhabited by a race of intelligent, humanoid creatures called the Serapionites. The scientists soon discover that the Serapionites are in the midst of a civil war, and they must find a way to help the two sides come to a peaceful resolution. The scientists soon discover that the Serapionites are not the only inhabitants of the planet. There is also a mysterious race of creatures called the Numinous, who are said to possess great powers. The scientists must find a way to use the Numinous to help end the war and bring peace to Serapion. The novel is a classic example of early science fiction, and is considered to be one of Stevens' best works.
