Frank Belknap Long

Frank Belknap Long (1901-1994) was an American writer of horror, fantasy, and science fiction. He was born in New York City and attended Columbia University, where he studied English literature. He began writing professionally in the 1920s, and his first published story appeared in Weird Tales in 1925. Long was a prolific writer, and his works appeared in many of the leading pulp magazines of the day, including Astounding Stories, Amazing Stories, and Unknown. He was a member of the Lovecraft Circle, a group of writers who were influenced by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. He wrote several stories in collaboration with Lovecraft, and his work was also influenced by the works of Robert E. Howard and Clark Ashton Smith. Long's most famous works include The Hounds of Tindalos (1929), The Horror from the Hills (1931), and The Space-Eaters (1932). He also wrote several novels, including The Horror from the Middle Span (1953) and The Rim of the Unknown (1954). He was a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America, and he received the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1975.
