Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) was the 32nd President of the United States, serving from 1933 to 1945. He was a central figure in world events during the mid-20th century, leading the United States during a time of worldwide economic crisis and world war. Roosevelt was born into a wealthy family in Hyde Park, New York. He attended Harvard University and Columbia Law School, and entered politics in 1910, serving in the New York State Senate. He was elected Governor of New York in 1928, and was then elected President in 1932. As President, Roosevelt implemented the New Deal, a series of economic programs designed to provide relief to the unemployed and stimulate the economy. He also led the United States through World War II, and was instrumental in the creation of the United Nations. He died in office in 1945.
