Frederic Manning

Frederic Manning (1882-1935) was an Australian author and poet. He is best known for his novel The Middle Parts of Fortune, which was based on his experiences in World War I. Manning was born in Sydney, Australia, and educated at Sydney Grammar School. He worked as a clerk in the Australian government before enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force in 1915. He served in France and Belgium, and was wounded in action in 1917. After the war, he returned to Australia and wrote The Middle Parts of Fortune, which was published in 1929. The novel was praised for its realistic portrayal of the horrors of war, and it was later adapted into a film. Manning also wrote several other novels, including Her Privates We (1930) and The Old Man (1932). He died in 1935 at the age of 53.
