George H. Smith

George H. Smith (1917-2006) was an American author and journalist. He was born in Los Angeles, California and attended the University of California, Los Angeles. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Smith wrote several books, including The Last Days of L.A. (1959), a novel about the decline of Los Angeles in the 1950s. He also wrote several non-fiction books about California, including California: A Guide to the Golden State (1962) and California: A History (1966). He was a contributing editor to the Los Angeles Times and wrote for many other publications. He was also a lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles.
