George Washington (1732-1799) was an American statesman and political leader who served as the first President of the United States from 1789 to 1797. He led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary War and was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He also presided over the Constitutional Convention that drafted the United States Constitution. Washington was a planter, surveyor, and soldier, and he was a leader of the Patriot cause during the American Revolution. He was a delegate to the Second Continental Congress and was unanimously elected President of the United States in 1789. He was re-elected in 1792 and served until 1797.
