The story revolves around Herbert West, a scientist who develops a serum that can reanimate the dead. He shares his discovery with his friend Dan Cain, and together they begin experimenting on corpses in an abandoned mortuary. West's obsession with reviving the dead grows stronger as he perfects his formula, but the results are often disastrous. The reanimated corpses are violent, unpredictable, and prone to attacking the living.
