A young scholar lives in a boarding house on the Rue d'Auseil in Paris. He becomes fascinated with the strange and melancholic music played by the old man who lives in the attic. The old man, Zann, is a musician of great skill but also of great sorrow. As the scholar listens to Zann's music, he begins to uncover the dark secrets behind it.
