Hanns Heinz Ewers (1871–1943) was a German writer, poet, and filmmaker. He is best known for his horror and fantasy stories, which often featured supernatural elements. He was also a prolific playwright and novelist. Ewers was born in Berlin and studied law at the University of Berlin. He began writing in the 1890s, and his first novel, Alraune, was published in 1911. It was a huge success and was adapted into a film in 1918. He wrote several other novels, including The Sorcerer's Apprentice (1913) and The Spider (1919). Ewers was a controversial figure in his time, due to his support of the Nazi Party and his anti-Semitic views. He was also a member of the occult Thule Society. Despite this, his works remain popular and have been adapted into films and television shows.
