Henry Slesar (1927-2002) was an American author and playwright. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and attended the City College of New York. He began his career as a copywriter for an advertising agency, and later became a freelance writer. Slesar wrote more than 1,500 short stories, many of which were published in magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, and Playboy. He also wrote several novels, plays, and television scripts. He is best known for his mystery and suspense stories, which often featured clever twists and turns. Slesar won numerous awards for his writing, including the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America and the O. Henry Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He was also inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 2003.
