Hervey Allen (1889-1949) was an American author and poet. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He is best known for his 1933 historical novel Anthony Adverse, which was a bestseller and was adapted into a 1936 film. He also wrote several other novels, including Toward the Morning (1921), Action at Aquila (1924), and Israfel (1926). His poetry collections include The House of a Hundred Lights (1917) and The Forest of Wild Thyme (1921). He also wrote several non-fiction works, including The City of Beautiful Nonsense (1925) and The Romance of the Thames (1927).
