Hjalmar Hjorth Boyesen (1848–1895) was a Norwegian-American author and professor of literature. He was born in Norway and immigrated to the United States in 1871. He studied at the University of Wisconsin and later taught at Cornell University. He wrote several novels, including Gunnar (1874), Viking Tales (1875), and The Emigrant (1881). He also wrote several short stories, including "The White Bear King Valemon" (1873) and "The Boy Who Found the Light" (1876). He was a popular lecturer and was known for his wit and humor. He died in 1895 at the age of 47.
