Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937) was an Uruguayan author of short stories and plays. He is considered one of the most important Latin American writers of the 20th century and is known for his stories of the macabre and supernatural. Quiroga was born in Salto, Uruguay, and studied law in Montevideo. He moved to Argentina in 1906 and worked as a journalist and editor. He wrote his first short story in 1908 and published his first collection of stories, Cuentos de amor, de locura y de muerte, in 1916. Quiroga's stories often feature animals, nature, and the supernatural, and are known for their psychological depth and dark themes. He wrote more than 200 stories, as well as several plays and novels. Quiroga died in Buenos Aires in 1937.
