Hosea was a prophet in the Old Testament of the Bible. He was the son of Beeri and lived in the northern kingdom of Israel during the 8th century BC. He was a contemporary of Amos, Isaiah, and Micah. Hosea was called by God to be a prophet to the northern kingdom of Israel. He was commanded to marry a prostitute, Gomer, as a symbol of God's relationship with Israel. Hosea's marriage to Gomer was a metaphor for God's relationship with Israel, which was often unfaithful. Hosea's prophetic ministry lasted for over 40 years. He warned the people of Israel of the consequences of their idolatry and disobedience to God. He also prophesied of the coming of the Messiah and the restoration of Israel. Hosea's writings are found in the book of Hosea in the Old Testament. He is also mentioned in the New Testament in Romans 9:25-26.
