Hume Nisbet (1849–1923) was a Scottish-born Australian artist, illustrator, and author. He is best known for his illustrations of classic works of literature, such as The Arabian Nights, The Iliad, and The Odyssey. He also wrote several books, including The Story of the Glittering Plain (1891), The Book of the Bush (1893), and The Romance of Runnibede (1895). Nisbet was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and moved to Australia in 1868. He studied art at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, and later worked as an illustrator for the Illustrated Australian News. He also wrote and illustrated several books, including The Story of the Glittering Plain, which was adapted into a film in 1911. Nisbet was a prolific artist and illustrator, and his works are held in many public and private collections. He was also a member of the Royal Art Society of New South Wales, and was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1922. He died in 1923 in Sydney, Australia.
