John Hill (1714–1775) was an English author, playwright, and physician. He is best known for his 1753 book The Story of Elizabeth Canning Considered, which was a detailed account of the famous case of Elizabeth Canning, a young woman who claimed to have been kidnapped and held against her will. Hill's book was the first to examine the case in depth and to provide a comprehensive overview of the evidence. Hill was also a prolific playwright, writing over 30 plays during his lifetime. He was a member of the Royal Society and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
