J. Francis McComas (1913–1968) was an American science fiction editor, author, and anthologist. He was born in New York City and attended Columbia University. McComas was the co-editor of Astounding Science Fiction from 1937 to 1949, and the editor of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction from 1949 to 1958. He was also the editor of the anthology series Adventures in Time and Space (1946) and The Best from Fantasy and Science Fiction (1949–1958). McComas wrote several science fiction stories, including "The Great Secret" (1937), "The Man Who Wasn't There" (1938), and "The Man Who Could Not Die" (1941). He also wrote the novel The Great Secret (1944). McComas was a member of the Futurians, a group of science fiction fans and writers in New York City in the 1930s and 1940s. He was also a member of the all-male literary banqueting club the Trap Door Spiders.
