Jacinto Benavente (1866-1954) was a Spanish playwright and Nobel Prize winner. He was born in Madrid and studied law at the University of Madrid. He began writing plays in the 1890s and his works were performed in Madrid and other cities in Spain. He was a prolific writer, producing over 80 plays in his lifetime. His works often explored social issues and were known for their wit and humor. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1922. He was also a member of the Spanish Royal Academy and was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III. He died in Madrid in 1954.
