Jacinto Octavio Picón

Jacinto Octavio Picón is a Mexican-American author, poet, and playwright. He was born in Mexico City in 1954 and immigrated to the United States in the late 1960s. He is the author of several books, including the novel The Last Prince of the Mexican Empire (2006), the poetry collection The House of Memory (2009), and the play The Last Prince of the Mexican Empire (2012). He has also written for television and film, including the Emmy-nominated miniseries The House of Sand and Fog (2003). He is a professor of creative writing at the University of California, Riverside, and has been a visiting professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Texas at Austin. He is a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Literature and the California Arts Council Fellowship in Literature.
