James J. Walsh (1865-1942) was an American physician, author, and historian. He was born in New York City and graduated from Fordham University in 1887. He received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1890. He was a professor of clinical medicine at Fordham University and a professor of medical jurisprudence at the New York Post-Graduate Medical School. Walsh was a prolific author, writing over 50 books on a variety of topics, including history, religion, and medicine. His most famous work is The World's Debt to the Catholic Church (1924), which was a defense of the Catholic Church and its contributions to civilization. He also wrote several books on the history of medicine, including The Popes and Science (1908) and The Thirteenth, Greatest of Centuries (1917). He was a member of the Catholic Historical Society of America and the American Catholic Historical Association.
