Jesse F. Bone (1917-2006) was an American author and professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was born in North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1939. He then went on to earn his master's degree in English from the University of Virginia in 1940. Bone was a prolific author, writing several books and articles on topics such as literature, culture, and education. His most famous work is Cultural Exchange: A Study of the Interaction of Cultures in the United States (1960), which was a pioneering work in the field of cultural studies. He also wrote several other books, including The American Dream: A Study of the American Character (1962), The American Character: A Study of the American Mind (1965), and The American Mind: A Study of the American Character (1968). In addition to his writing, Bone was also an active member of the academic community. He served as a professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1945 to 1985, and was a visiting professor at several other universities, including the University of Virginia, the University of Michigan, and the University of California at Berkeley. He was also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
