Ji-Li Jiang is a Chinese-American author and speaker. She was born in Shanghai, China in 1962 and immigrated to the United States in 1984. She is the author of the award-winning memoir Red Scarf Girl: A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution, which was published in 1997. The book tells the story of her experiences during the Cultural Revolution in China. Jiang is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a degree in economics. She has also earned a master's degree in public policy from Harvard University. Jiang is a frequent speaker at schools and universities, and she has been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. She has also appeared on television programs such as The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Today Show. Jiang is the founder and president of the Red Scarf Project, a non-profit organization that works to promote understanding and respect for human rights in China. She is also the co-founder of the Chinese American Museum in Los Angeles.
