John A. White (1917-2006) was an American zoologist and mammalogist. He was born in New York City and received his B.A. from Columbia University in 1938 and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1942. He was a professor of zoology at the University of Michigan from 1945 to 1982. He was a specialist in the study of small mammals, particularly chipmunks, and published numerous papers on the subject. He was the author of A New Chipmunk (Genus Eutamias) from the Black Hills, which was published in 1952. He was also the author of the book The Mammals of Michigan, which was published in 1961.
